Whether you're opening a new ASC, pursuing initial accreditation, or recovering from a failed survey — The Doctor Consultants has the expertise to get you across the finish line.
Surgery Center Accreditation Bodies
We are experts in all three CMS-approved accreditation organizations for ambulatory surgery centers. We help you choose the right body and guide you through every requirement.
The Joint Commission (TJC)
The gold standard in healthcare accreditation. TJC accreditation signals the highest level of quality and safety to patients, payers, and regulators. We guide your ASC through every standard, chapter by chapter.
- Standards gap analysis
- Tracer methodology prep
- Mock unannounced survey
- Corrective action plans
- Post-survey follow-through
AAAHC Accreditation
The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care is the most widely recognized accreditor for outpatient and ambulatory surgery centers. We streamline your AAAHC application and survey preparation.
- Self-study document preparation
- Policy & procedure alignment
- Staff education & training
- On-site survey readiness
- Continuous quality improvement
QUAD A Accreditation
Formerly AAAASF, QUAD A accreditation is recognized by Medicare and most commercial payers. We help office-based surgery centers and ASCs achieve and maintain QUAD A status efficiently.
- Facility standards compliance
- Equipment & safety review
- Credentialing support
- Peer review program setup
- Annual re-accreditation prep

Surgery Center Accreditation FAQs
Everything you need to know about the accreditation process for ambulatory surgery centers.
How long does surgery center accreditation take?
Most surgery centers can be survey-ready within 60–90 days with dedicated consulting support. The actual accreditation decision typically comes within 30–60 days after the survey. New ASCs may require 4–6 months depending on licensure timelines.
Which accreditation body should my surgery center choose?
The right choice depends on your payer mix, state requirements, and facility type. TJC carries the highest prestige and is required by some health systems. AAAHC is the most common for freestanding ASCs. QUAD A is ideal for office-based surgery. We help you evaluate all three and choose the best fit.
Do we need accreditation to accept Medicare and Medicaid?
Yes — Medicare-certified ASCs must either be accredited by a CMS-approved accreditation organization (TJC, AAAHC, or QUAD A) or undergo direct CMS certification surveys. Accreditation is the faster, more predictable path.
What is a mock survey and why does it matter?
A mock survey replicates the actual accreditation survey experience — our consultants use the same tracer methodology, interview staff, review records, and inspect the facility. It identifies gaps before the real survey so you can correct them without consequence.
Can you help a surgery center that failed its accreditation survey?
Absolutely. We specialize in post-survey corrective action planning — analyzing the findings, developing a written corrective action plan, implementing changes, and preparing for the follow-up survey. Most clients achieve accreditation on the second attempt.
Do you work with surgery centers outside of Illinois?
Yes. We serve surgery centers nationwide — including major markets in New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Houston, and beyond. Most of our work is conducted remotely with on-site visits for mock surveys and survey-day support.
